February 4, 2008 -Ceader Grove, NJ — Strong brands command success, enjoy greater market share and generate profits. But they need not be limited to only products and services. By creating a strong personal brand, you can establish your credibility, enhance your reputation and further your career and professional success.

At their first networking meeting of the year in January, members and friends of the Northern New Jersey Professional Chapter of AWC heard from veteran brand builder Denise Barnwell on how they can build a strong personal brand.

President of Transformation Marketing LLC, Barnwell opened the presentation noting how women such as Oprah Winfrey, Suzanne Somers and Martha Stewart have used personal branding to establish their success and the success of their companies.

People trust brands, she noted, because they convey a clear promise of value. To build a personal brand, Barnwell advised taking an inventory of your talents, skills and values to determine your strengths and what sets you apart. Once that is done, she said, the next step is to put those characteristics into action, conveying them in word and behavior and building them into your business.

To be successful, a personal brand, she said, should be:
• Authentic
• Consistent
• Enduring

Prior to starting Transformation Marketing, Barnwell managed several well-known household name brands at Johnson & Johnson and M&M/Mars and directed a marketing communications staff for American Express. She also is co-author with Marcia Brown of “Brand Me, Inc.,” which is available at www.brandme-inc.com.
