Capizzi was asked to fill an unexpired term for one year, beginning Jan. 1, 2010. Capizzi served as Co-President of AWCNJ from 2007 to 2009. She is a Senior Public Relations Specialist at Rutgers University in Newark where she is responsible for media relations, publications and public relations. Renee Gatz Publishes Book with the Help of AWC
October 2009 -- When AWCNJ member Renee Gatz completed the manuscript of her first book, "Wise Words & Witty Expressions," she reached out to fellow AWC members for help on getting it published. Using the AWC’s national email database, she was able to contact all AWC members and received over 200 email responses from across the nation. Women she had never met before offered up their publishing experience, contact information, thoughts and suggestions, and outlined the differences between self-publishing and working with a publishing company. The support Gatz received was so inspiring, it kept her motivated to get her book published. Ultimately, she elected to work with a start-up publishing company right in her own AWCNJ chapter, Woodpecker Press. All of these AWC connections resulted in the successful production of  "Wise Words & Witty Expressions," which shares a collection of the expressions Gatz's parents spoke to her throughout her life to help her navigate life’s big and little challenges. "The production of my book," says Gatz, "is a testament to the women who belong to this organization and the commitment they have to seeing their fellow members meet with success and the power of the network." Attendees report the conference featured educational, informative and topical sessions as well as opportunities for networking and fun. For AWCNJ members, however, a special highlight was receiving AWC's 2008 national award for Most Innovative Membership Programming.

Each year, AWC presents awards at its national conference to salute professional chapters that have "excelled in leadership, communications and community support." The awards are offered in 11 areas related to chapter performance. The Northern New Jersey Professional Chapter received its award for achieving outstanding membership recruitment and retention.

AWCNJ Co-President Carla Capizzi and Immediate Past President Chris Goldthwaite accepted the award on the chapter's behalf. Also attending the conference were Vice Presidents Kathleen Brunet Eagan, Beth Forman, and Laurel Weber Snyder, as well as members Nancy Passow and Teresa Mendoza. Vice President Karen Streiff was looking forward to the event but had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
